The Vessel

Lore & Background

Its purpose was fulfilled when the Pale King placed the Radiance inside it, effectively imprisoning the goddess of light within a prison of pure nothingness. This act allowed Hallownest to flourish for a time, though the seal eventually weakened as the Vessel's own nature began to shift or perhaps simply due to the sheer power of what was contained. The tragedy lies in its design: a being created with no life, yet tasked with saving a kingdom full of it.

Reader's Guide

The Pale King sought a cure for the Radiance's plague by turning to the Void beneath the kingdom. He crafted many children from this dark substance, but most developed minds and were rejected as imperfect seals. Only one remained truly hollow, devoid of soul or thought. This perfect vessel was chosen to contain the blinding goddess, trapping her in a prison of nothingness where she could not spread her influence. For an age, the kingdom thrived under this silent seal. However, the Radiance's power eventually began to seep through, corrupting the land and its people. The Vessel was left to sleep while the infection took hold, waiting for a successor to take up the mantle of the empty shell.
