Memorial Day (also known as Memorial Day Killer) is a 1999 slasher film directed by Christopher Alender and written by Marcos Gabriel.

Background

The 1999 slasher film Memorial Day, also called Memorial Day Killer, begins with a cloaked figure wearing a black and white papier-mâché mask stabbing Tyra and Trevor to death in their apartment on the night before the holiday. The following day, Rachel, her cousin Leo, and five friends—Mickey, Cindy, Seth, Reagan, and Jeremy—travel to Memorial Lake Campground. It is their first visit since Rachel’s adopted brother Danny drowned there three years earlier, an event considered an accident.

After setting up camp, the group drinks around a fire and shares ghost stories. Seth, however, returns to the cabins to watch television, where he sees a news report about the murders of Tyra and Trevor, who were supposed to join the trip. He hurries back to warn the others, but at that moment a booby trap launches a spear into Jeremy, killing him and scattering the group.

Seth attempts to drive away but runs out of gas. The killer sends a previously captured hostage to tell Seth to exit his car. When Seth refuses, the killer shoots the hostage.

Back at the camp, Mickey hits a masked figure with a baseball bat, only to discover it is Seth, gagged and bound. The killer then attacks Reagan, forcing her to crawl over razor blades while beating her with a hot piece of rebar. Cindy is shot, and Mickey is tortured to death with fish hooks, nails, and a knife.

Rachel and Leo regroup. A hysterical Rachel blames herself, confessing she brought Danny out on the boat the night he drowned. Leo then reveals he is the killer, explaining that Danny—his biological brother—has been speaking to him, ordering him to avenge his death by murdering everyone involved. Leo tries to kill Rachel, but she shoots him with his own gun. Before doing so, she admits she purposely drowned Danny because she hated him.

In a post-credits scene, Rachel walks away from the camp. Leo gets up and puts his mask on after an invisible force pushes it across the floor. A distorted voice wails, “We’re coming for you!”
