Easter Bunny, Kill! Kill!

A fun, pretense-free throwback to a bygone era of exploitation cinema.

Last updated

Easter Bunny, Kill! Kill! is a 2006 American slasher film written and directed by Chad Ferrin. The cast includes Timothy Muskatell, Charlotte Marie, Ricardo Gray, David Z. Stamp, and Trent Haaga, who also served as a producer.

The story follows Remington, a lowlife who robs a convenience store while wearing an Easter Bunny mask and shoots the clerk. He has insinuated himself into the life of widow Mindy Peters, a nurse living with her son Nicholas, who has cerebral palsy.

Remington torments Nicholas when Mindy is away. While taking out the trash, Nicholas meets a disfigured vagrant who gives him a rabbit, claiming it is an Easter Bunny. Nicholas hides the rabbit, but Remington discovers it and threatens to kill it if Nicholas speaks ill of him to Mindy.

On Easter, Mindy leaves Nicholas alone with Remington for a double shift. Remington assaults Nicholas and invites over Ray, a disabled pedophilic acquaintance, to whom he "rents" Nicholas for money and drugs. While Remington fetches prostitutes and Ray searches for Nicholas, someone wearing Remington's discarded mask kills Ray with a knife and a drill.

The killer then disposes of Ray's body. When the renovators return for their tools, the killer disembowels one with a circular saw and wounds another with a hammer. Remington arrives with prostitutes Candy and Brooke.

The injured handyman attacks them, and Remington kills him with a flashlight. The killer then impales Candy through the mouth with a broomstick, stabs Brooke with glass, and slits Remington's throat. The killer is revealed to be Mindy, who taunts Remington, saying she watched how he treated Nicholas. A flashback shows that ten years earlier, Mindy set her abusive husband Donald on fire for calling Nicholas a burden.

The homeless man enters, revealed to be Donald, asking for forgiveness. He presents the head of a renovator he killed to help Mindy. The family embraces, and Donald suggests they clean up the bodies and start a family.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds a 100% positive rating from six critics, with an average score of 6.7/10. Bloody Disgusting gave it 3/5, calling it a shallow but fun, pretense-free throwback to exploitation cinema. Steve Barton of Dread Central scored it 3.5/5, praising its acting and competent filmmaking while noting its obscene content. DVD Talk's Jeremy Biltz gave it 2.5/5, describing it as creepy, tense, and gory, but flawed in acting, story, and pacing.
