Life and work

In 1994, Schwimmer was cast as Ross Geller, a hopeless-romantic paleontologist, on Friends.[1] Schwimmer directed ten episodes of Friends during its run.[4] Schwimmer married British artist Zoë Buckman on June 4, 2010, and their daughter Cleo was born in 2011.[5][6] Schwimmer refused the part of Ross at first, but later changed his mind and agreed to play the character.[1]

The 2007 British comedy Run Fatboy Run marked Schwimmer's first time directing a feature film.[7]

What the cited sources add

A 2001 Guardian profile notes that Schwimmer has a theatrical background and a keen interest in social issues, unlike his five sitcom co-stars.[8] A 2004 NBC News interview reports that Schwimmer identified with the "neurotic kind of lovable loser" aspect of Ross Geller.[9] The Hello! magazine profile states that Schwimmer's on-again-off-again relationship with Jennifer Aniston's Rachel earned him an Emmy nomination and a Screen Actors Guild award.[10] A 2017 Us Weekly article confirms that Schwimmer and Buckman announced they were "taking some time apart" in April 2017.[11]
