Dream Chronicles: The Chosen Child
Third installment in the Dream Chronicles series.
Dream Chronicles: The Chosen Child (also called Dream Chronicles 3 or The Chosen Child) is a casual adventure and puzzle game from 2009. It was developed by KatGames and first published by PlayFirst. As the third game in the Dream Chronicles series, it is the second sequel to the award-winning 2007 original. A limited beta version appeared in February 2009, with a worldwide digital release following on April 16, 2009.
The story takes place in a fantasy world where mortal and fairy realms overlap, continuing directly from the events of Dream Chronicles 2: The Eternal Maze. The protagonist, a mortal woman named Faye, awakens from a powerful fairy’s dream spell with no memory of her past or true identity. Through recurring dreams, she pieces together that she has a husband and a daughter, both taken by the Fairy Queen of Dreams. Guided by visions and dreams from her Fairy husband, Faye sets out to rescue her child once more.
Upon release, The Chosen Child became another hit in the series, reaching number one on eleven casual game charts and placing in the top ten on many others. Critics praised it as a visually stunning, Myst-like adventure that immerses players in a fairy-filled fantasy world. In June 2010, it received two nominations at the second annual GameHouse Great Game Awards: "Top Hidden Object Game" and "Best Story." The game was preceded by Dream Chronicles 2: The Eternal Maze (2008) and followed by Dream Chronicles: The Book of Air (2010). A high-definition version became available for iPad via the App Store in August 2012.
**Gameplay**
The Chosen Child is a hidden object game with adventure elements, featuring numerous puzzles and tasks. Its structure closely resembles that of Dream Chronicles 2: The Eternal Maze but goes deeper. Each area contains half a dozen or more unique locations, and players solve puzzles using items scattered throughout the environment. As Faye, players must travel back and forth between scenes to find what they need. Carrying items between locations is essential for solving the intricate puzzles. Puzzle types include word unscrambling, potion mixing, using a telescope to find constellations, assembling a sewing machine, playing Simon and sliding games, placing items correctly, and other logic-based challenges.

The game features Dream Jewels with unique usages, required to open new Nexus gateways, and for the first time Dream Jewels can be collected by players. There are 25 main scenes and seven areas, including the Treehouse Village, Nexus Gateway, Herbalist's House, Observatory, Wishing Well Village, Underwater Retreat, and Eternal Maze.
