Background and publication history
The estate of Agatha Christie accepted a proposal from Sophie Hannah in 2013 to publish a new Hercule Poirot novel. The first such novel, The Monogram Murders, appeared in September 2014. The Killings at Kingfisher Hill is the fourth in this series, following Closed Casket and The Mystery of Three Quarters. It was released in the United Kingdom on August 20, 2020, and in the United States by HarperCollins on September 15, 2020.
Reception
The novel received positive reviews from Publishers Weekly, Star Tribune, NPR, and The Wall Street Journal. The New York Times Book Review listed it among “The Best Books to Give This Year” in 2020, calling it a psychological thriller with an intricate and humorous puzzle plot. A review in The Boar found it confusing at points and the revelations somewhat unbelievable, but considered it a generally light read that mostly plays fair with the reader.
