History
On August 29, 2006, Armstrong used a MySpace bulletin to announce his plan for a solo LP. He stated it would be free and available online, with tracks dropping one at a time. That same day, Epitaph’s site posted the first song, “Hold On,” as both an MP3 and a music video. The second track, “Wake Up,” followed on October 11, 2006, using the same method.
No further songs appeared that way, though “Into Action” aired on KROQ-FM in March 2007. Epitaph’s website initially listed a February 6, 2007 release date, later shifting it to June 7. After KROQ began playing the single, the date moved up to May 22. “Into Action” received little promotion but still hit number 39 on the Billboard Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart, where it remained for two weeks.
In its final newsletter, Epitaph said the remaining eight tracks and their videos would surface in the weeks before the album’s release, but they did not reveal where. Fans had to hunt for the songs across different websites to download them.
