Fictional character history

Liz Sherman was born in Kansas City, Kansas, on April 15, 1962, and had a normal childhood until her pyrokinetic abilities emerged at age ten. Raised Catholic, she believed the fires resulted from her sins and temporarily controlled them through prayer and willpower. In July 1973, when she was eleven, she lost control, destroying a city block and killing her parents, brother, and pet dog. Her last uncontrolled manifestation occurred on July 4, 1984. After being passed among extended family, she was taken in by the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense in May 1974, where she learned to manage her power. She became a full agent in 1980 and often teamed with Hellboy and Abe Sapien. Her childhood trauma left her bitter, and she periodically left the Bureau. During the Wake the Devil storyline, while searching for Giurescu's body, she led a group to the Ruins of Czege Castle, where she accidentally transferred her pyrokinesis into a homunculus later named Roger. The transfer caused her to enter a coma, but Hellboy found Roger, who returned her powers. To gain better control, she lived with monks in the Agartha Temple in the Ural Mountains before resuming active duty after Hellboy quit. She achieved complete control over fire, and her powers were magnified by an ancient object revealed in a dream by Memnan Saa, enabling her to burn the Katha-Hem entity to dust.

Relationship with Hellboy

In the Hellboy film series, Liz Sherman has a romantic relationship with Hellboy. She grew up knowing him after being taken in as a child, and both films explore their feelings and how their relationship works given their natures. The second film deals with her pregnancy with Hellboy's twin children and how that changes their future. In the comic books, however, Liz and Hellboy are only friends.
