Ferret Music was established in 1996 by Carl Severson, frontman of NORA, and quickly became a notable force in the metalcore and hardcore scenes. The label operated from West Windsor, New Jersey, and built a roster that included acts such as 36 Crazyfists, Killswitch Engage, Every Time I Die, and The Devil Wears Prada. In August 2006, Warner Music Group's Alternative Distribution Alliance acquired a stake in Ferret, leading to distribution through Fontana Distribution, Alternative Distribution Alliance, and eOne Music. The following year, Ferret partnered with Siege of Amida Records, a rising UK extreme metal and hardcore punk label, with S.O.A.R. retaining A&R responsibilities.
