Esme & Roy, a children's animated series from Dustin Ferrer and Amy Steinberg, follows a girl and her monster friend who babysit various creatures. Produced by Sesame Workshop and Nelvana with Corus Entertainment, it debuted on HBO and Treehouse TV on August 18, 2018. The show was HBO Family's first original since Classical Baby and its last.
Characters
Esmeralda "Esme" (voiced by Millie Davis) is a 9-year-old African-American girl and a monster sitter who uses her MonsterCase—a suitcase full of games that turns into a motorized scooter—to help monsters play their problems away. In "Party Time" she experiences a Monster Sitter Meltdown, and Roy helps her by singing the "Belly Breathing" song. In "Stroller Derby" it is revealed that Esme attends a different school than the little monsters. Roy (voiced by Patrick McKenna) is Esme's best friend, a yellow monster who carries a Monster Fact book and loves meatballs.
Dumpling is Esme and Roy's pet guinea pig/hamster-like monster who rolls into a ball and loves to dance. Hugo Ooga (voiced by Shayle Simons) is a theatrical 4-year-old winged monster who creates his own spotlight by clapping. Fig Ooga (voiced by Elle Simons) is Hugo's 1-year-old baby sister without wings; she has super strength and shrinks if she smells a Sludgeflower. Tillie Plink (voiced by Abigail Oliver) is an active 3-year-old monster with pink fur, blue eyes, and red hair in pigtails; she spins fast when sad, for fun, or for dancing and sometimes refers to herself in third person.
Snugs Muzzywump (voiced by Benjamin Hum) is a 3-year-old monster who loves to hug and cuddle; he puffs up when scared or upset and has a baby brother named Fuzzy.
