Lore & Background
The game follows Ren Amamiya and Morgana returning to Tokyo for a reunion with the Phantom Thieves. They use a virtual assistant app called EMMA, which leads them to a mysterious alternate version of Tokyo called a Jail, ruled by a Monarch. A sentient AI named Sophia joins the party, and the group re-establishes the Phantom Thieves to change the hearts of corrupted Monarchs across Japan. They are blackmailed by public prosecutor Zenkichi Hasegawa, who provides information in exchange for help with his investigation. The plot involves AI creator Kuon Ichinose and CEO Akira Konoe, with Konoe supported by corrupt politician Jun Owada, who was involved in covering up the hit-and-run that killed Zenkichi's wife. The Thieves eventually confront a god-like AI called the Demiurge, which seeks to remove all human desires to create a utopia.
