The Surface

The surface is the world above the isolated subterranean villages in which the Spiral King, Lordgenome, forces mankind to live, cut off from the surface and from each other. Simon, a meek young digger in Giha village, and his friend Kamina, who dreams of visiting the surface, break through the ceiling with the mecha Lagann and reach it, where they fight alongside other humans against Lordgenome's forces. The few humans who escape to the surface are constantly threatened by his Beastmen.
