Lore & Background
The Warriors were founded in Philadelphia in 1946 as a charter member of the Basketball Association of America. Eddie Gottlieb was hired as coach and general manager; he named the team after the Philadelphia Warriors, a team he founded with friends in 1917. Gottlieb bought the team in 1951. The 1955–56 championship was led by future Hall of Famers Paul Arizin, Tom Gola, and Neil Johnston.
