Lore & Background

The game has a futuristic take on the Ghost Recon series. The campaign has settings such as Bolivia, Zambia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Russia, and Norway. In 2024, Joe Ramirez leads a four-man Ghost Recon squad to Nicaragua to disrupt weapons trafficking; a dirty bomb kills the team. Major Scott Mitchell assembles the Ghost Recon team 'Hunter' at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, consisting of Captain Cedric Ferguson, Staff Sergeant John Kozak, Master Sergeant Robert 'Pepper' Bonifacio, and Sergeant First Class Jimmy '30K' Ellison. The team rescues an arms dealer in Sucre, Bolivia, and follows a trail of weapons through Zambia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Russia, and Kaliningrad. A nuclear missile from Dagestan impacts London but is destroyed by an American missile shield. The Ghosts battle a rogue Russian group called Raven's Rock and the elite Bodark unit. They rescue the deposed Russian President Volodin and eliminate seven Raven's Rock leaders, the last killed by a train.

In Their Own Story

The wind hit like a wall of broken glass. Ghost crouched behind the frozen hull of a downed transport, breath fogging in short bursts, and watched the thermal signatures bloom across the ridge—twelve, maybe fourteen, moving in a pincer. Sarge's voice crackled, low and steady: "Rook's got the overwatch on the east catwalk. Frost is cutting the generator. You've got ninety seconds before they rotate."

Ninety seconds. The Arctic night was absolute black beyond the floodlights, and the cold had already numbed the fingers inside the gloves. Ghost checked the magazine, felt the familiar weight, and keyed the comms. "Sarge, I'm going in low through the drainage. If I go quiet, you pull the squad and we burn this site."

A pause. Then: "Copy. Stay loud, Ghost."

Ghost moved. The ice groaned underfoot. Somewhere ahead, a generator whined down to silence, and the floodlights died one by one, swallowing the compound in darkness. The pincer tightened. Ninety seconds had become forty. Ghost smiled behind the mask and stepped into the black.

Reader's Guide

The game is a third-person cover-based shooter. Pulling the left trigger zooms in for precise aiming; clicking the right analog stick switches to first-person camera for iron sights. Some cover can be partially destroyed. Suppressive fire narrows and shakes the field of view. Adaptive camouflage makes the player partially invisible when moving slowly, enabled when crouching, disengaged when running, firing, or taking damage. Players can mark up to four targets for squad focus fire (Sync Shot). Gunsmith allows extensive weapon customization; parts include optics, triggers, magazines, under-barrel attachments, side-rail attachments, gas systems, barrels, muzzles, stocks, and paint. Players use drones that can hover or move on wheels, with active camouflage and a sonic blast. The War Hound is a heavy walking robot used in one mission. Multiplayer includes cooperative campaign, Guerilla mode, and competitive modes (Conflict, Decoy, Saboteur, Siege) with character classes Scout, Engineer, and Rifleman. A one-time use code is required for full online access; servers shut down on October 1, 2022.
