Biography

Milk & Sugar came together in 1997 when Kronenberger and Harning, a DJ and producer duo, joined forces after being inspired by the Spanish disco house scene of the mid-1990s. They quickly launched their own label, Milk & Sugar Recordings, which at first only put out their own work. By 1998, though, they had started signing outside talent like Damien J. Carter, Tim Deluxe, and Robbie Rivera. In 2000, the label won the German Dance Award for Best Independent Label Spain. The most notable act on the roster besides the duo themselves was Kid Alex, whose 2003 track "Young Love (Topless)" and album Colorz earned him a worldwide deal with Universal Music Group. When his contract ended in 2007, Kid Alex went on to form the act Boys Noize.

The duo broke into the international scene in 2000 with "Higher & Higher," after David Morales put the song on a compilation. The following year, "Love Is in the Air" cracked the top 40 in Spain, Germany, and the UK, peaking at number 25 on the UK Singles Chart. That track used the original vocal from John Paul Young's 1977 disco hit, and Young himself appeared in the music video alongside Milk & Sugar. Also in 2001, they won the Italian DJ Award and toured with Morales, Frankie Knuckles, and Tony Humphries. In 2003, they released "Let the Sun Shine," an Ibiza-inspired rework of the 5th Dimension's 1969 number one "Let the Sunshine In." It became their biggest single to date, hitting number one in Hungary and on the US Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs chart, and reaching the top 20 in the UK, Greece, the Netherlands, and Spain. The vocals were handled by British singer and actress Lizzy Pattinson, sister of actor Robert Pattinson.

Over the next few years, Milk & Sugar built their reputation as both DJs and remixers. They created remixes for Jamiroquai's "Corner of the Earth," Janet Jackson's "C'mon Get Up," and Usher's "My Way," as well as for No Angels, Mýa, Sarah Brightman, Samantha Mumba, Alex Gaudino, Room 5, and Despina Vandi. As DJs, they gained international experience playing at Ibiza clubs like Amnesia, Space, and El Divino, and toured across the UK, France, Spain, Italy, and other Mediterranean countries. Starting in 2002, they also performed in Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Hungary, Moldova, Romania, and Belarus.
