The drone's presence on a ship often signals a vessel that is prepared for high-intensity conflict. While they cannot perform complex surgeries or cure diseases, their ability to instantly heal a crew member from critical condition back to full health makes them invaluable in the heat of battle. They are frequently found hovering near medical bays or navigating through smoke-filled corridors to reach downed officers, acting as the ship's immune system against physical trauma.

The Medical Drone is not recruited as a crew member but is instead installed as a system upgrade or comes pre-equipped on certain Federation ships like the Engi Scout. It occupies no crew slot and consumes minimal power, making it an efficient addition to almost any vessel configuration. Its primary ability is to automatically heal injured crew members to full health when they are in critical condition. This activation happens instantly during combat rounds, often saving a captain or key specialist from death before the player can manually intervene with a medbay.

Unlike human doctors who require time and crew slots, the drone operates continuously without rest. However, it cannot heal non-critical injuries or perform advanced repairs on ship systems; its focus is strictly biological stabilization. It is most effective when paired with a strong medical bay to handle minor wounds while the drone handles life-or-death emergencies.
