Series overview
Tru is aided by her boss, Davis, who acts as a sort of guide and mentor and is later revealed to have known about Tru's mother, the last person to receive the calling before her daughter. Her best friend Lindsey does not know Tru's secret, while her impulsive younger brother Harrison is good-natured and bumbling. Tru keeps her secret from her boyfriends and her sister Meredith, who has a drug problem. Halfway through the first season, Tru meets Jack Harper, a man who shares her abilities but works to preserve fate by ensuring the people Tru tries to help stay dead; the series was canceled before their struggle concluded. In the first-season finale, it is revealed that Tru's father knows Jack and had played a similarly antagonistic role against Tru's mother, hiring a hitman to kill her, though neither Harrison nor Tru found out. The second season does not feature Lindsey or Meredith, whose characters are not mentioned, and has Tru juggling medical school and her life-saving ability while Jack aims to foil her.
Cancellation
The show ended in 2005 after poor ratings. Its last episode aired outside the United States before it reached American audiences, leaving several storylines unresolved. In season two, Tru’s love interest Jensen, a medical student, starts recalling memories from a timeline where he died, which makes him fixate on death. Despite their earlier hostility, Tru invites Jack to her Christmas party, suggesting he could eventually help her oppose her father, Richard. Dr. Carrie Allen, the morgue’s new psychologist who was secretly working for Jack to manipulate Davis, learns the truth about Tru’s time-rewinding ability from Davis, though Davis hasn’t told Tru yet. At the party, Jack tells Tru’s father he still plans to ensure Jensen dies, even after failing to make that death happen in the prior episode. A Russian adaptation, titled Я отменяю смерть (I Revoke the Death), debuted on TV-3 on October 9, 2012.
