Production
The reality series The Casino was the first of its kind to be filmed using high-definition video cameras. Production initially considered using the Aladdin Resort & Casino or Caesars Palace as the primary location before settling on the Golden Nugget. In January 2004, scenes featuring Tim Poster and Thomas Breitling were shot around Las Vegas. Filming at the Golden Nugget itself was originally planned for that same month but was delayed, starting on February 2, 2004.
A section of the Golden Nugget's casino floor was closed off to capture high-stakes action at a roulette wheel, a dice table, and four blackjack tables. Eighteen camera crews recorded roughly 270 hours of material for each hour-long episode. Executive producer James Bruce believed the show's variety meant it "could go on forever." Additional filming took place on the Las Vegas Strip and in downtown Las Vegas.
Work at the Golden Nugget wrapped on March 17, 2004, with some background footage scheduled for later pickup. The theme song, "Two Shots of Happy, One Shot of Sad," was written by Bono and The Edge and performed by Matt Dusk.
