Background
Set in Jamaica, the series followed unmarried men and women who voluntarily agreed to cease contact with their friends and family to live at a luxury resort indefinitely. Contestants accrued a monetary reward based on how long they stayed, but the reward was contingent on remaining for predetermined periods. They could leave at any time, but leaving meant forfeiting the reward. As the series progressed, producers introduced new contestants and guest stars, including former partners and long-lost relatives. The concept for the series stemmed from the reality television series Paradise Hotel. The series was filmed in Jamaica at a cost of $750,000 per episode.
