Former anchors

Tony Snow served as the founding anchor from 1996 until 2003, when he left to become White House Press Secretary for President George W. Bush. Snow died on July 12, 2008. Chris Wallace replaced Snow in October 2003 and hosted for 18 years. Wallace secured high-profile interviews, including Barack Obama's first Fox News interview after becoming president and a 2018 interview with Russian president Vladimir Putin. Wallace abruptly announced his departure from Fox News on December 12, 2021, later joining CNN's streaming service CNN+; that show was cancelled after CNN+ shut down on April 30 due to low subscriptions. Wallace now hosts a talk show for HBO Max and a Sunday night show for CNN.

Overview

The program began on April 28, 1996, five and a half months before the launch of Fox News Channel. It was the first network news show to stream live on the Internet and the first to incorporate live user commentary via an Internet BBS. The show airs live at 9:00 a.m. Eastern Time, though many Fox stations may broadcast it later. It is rebroadcast on Fox News Channel at 2:00 p.m. ET and 2:00 a.m. ET the same day. An audio-only version airs on radio stations, mostly iHeartMedia outlets, and on WCSP-FM in Washington. High-definition production began in August 2008.

Format

The first minutes of the broadcast run down the day's headlines, as Fox lacks a conventional national morning news program leading into the show. For the rest of the first half, the host interviews news makers from the prior week. The second half features a panel of four pundits discussing the political impact of the news. Regular panel members include Brit Hume, Mara Liasson, Juan Williams, Dana Perino, Guy Benson, Katie Pavlich, Trey Gowdy, Susan Page, Charles Lane, Marie Harf, Mo Elleithee, Jacqui Heinrich, Charles Hurt, Harold Ford Jr., Jennifer Griffin, Jason L. Riley, Peter Doocy, Julie Pace, Howard Kurtz, Mollie Hemingway, Morgan Ortagus, Byron York, Josh Kraushaar, Olivia Beavers, and Jason Chaffetz. The program ends with a short segment on a "Power Player of the Week," typically a non-political "feel good" story about a person who has made a significant contribution to society. Guest hosts include Mike Emanuel, Gillian Turner, Jennifer Griffin, and Bill Hemmer.
