Iron Flame

Book two of the Empyrean series (2023).

The second installment was released on November 7, 2023, only seven months after its predecessor due to consumer momentum from Fourth Wing's success.[1][2] The writing schedule Yarros follows allows her to write 2–3 books a year, and the process for Iron Flame was expedited by Entangled Publishing.[2] Two days following the publication of Fourth Wing, Yarros used Instagram to reveal both the name of the sequel and when it would be available.[1] An exclusive preview of 500 words from Iron Flame was published by TODAY.com three months prior to the book's official publication date.[1][3]

The aerial battle sequences in the book were shaped by the input of Yarros's spouse, who served as an Apache pilot in the U.S. Army.[4] Amazon MGM Studios secured the streaming rights for the complete series, as reported by Variety, just seven days before Iron Flame came out.[5][6] The rights agreement covers Fourth Wing, Iron Flame, and the three additional volumes that are still planned for the series.[5] Yarros will serve as an executive producer on the project alongside Liz Pelletier and Liz Raposo, though she will not be credited as a writer for the adaptation.[5]

No official approval to begin production on the series has been given yet.[5]
