History
Foligno had football teams from the early 1900s, with matches played against Czechoslovak military stationed in the city during the First World War. The club was founded in 1928. Its best result came in the 1933–34 Prima Divisione season, when it finished second and reached the promotion finals for runners-up; the Federation later overturned that outcome, condemning the club to relegation for unlawful sport. On 6 May 2007, under Giovanni Pagliari, Foligno won Serie C2 Group B and earned promotion to Serie C1.
In 2007–2008, coached by Pierpaolo Bisoli, the team reached the Serie B promotion play-off by beating Venezia 0–2 at the Penzo stadium on 27 April 2008. Foligno won the first leg 1–0 against Cittadella but lost the return leg 0–2 on 25 May 2008, missing promotion. The 2008–2009 Lega Pro Prima Divisione season saw Roberto Cevoli start as coach; he was fired on 4 November after only two wins and several draws, replaced by Paolo Indiani. After three consecutive defeats, the team sat second from bottom at mid-season.
New signings in January strengthened the side, producing victories over league leader Gallipoli, Ternana and Arezzo, but a later decline led to Marcello Pizzimenti replacing Indiani following a loss to Virtus Lanciano. Foligno finished in the play-out zone, lost the first leg 2–1 to Pistoiese, but won the second leg 1–0 to secure survival. On 7 July 2009, Luca Fusi became coach; he signed a contract extension until 30 June 2011 in late 2009 but was sacked on 26 April 2010.
On 9 May 2010, Foligno beat Perugia 2–0 at the Renato Curi stadium, avoiding the play-out and sparking city celebrations. On 13 December 2010, Salvatore Matrecano was dismissed as coach and Federico Giunti appointed.
