Plot
On Sirius 6-B, three individuals head toward an old communication bunker to activate its distress beacon. Only one of them makes it out alive, turning on the beacon before the rest are killed by Screamers. Two months later, a rescue team arrives on the planet aboard the Alliance Command spacecraft Medusa. There has been no word from Sirius 6B since the death of Joseph Hendrickson, until this signal. The assumption is that all Screamers have exhausted their batteries. A solar meteor storm is about to hit the entire planet, giving the team just six days to complete their mission. Pilot Olof Soderquist stays behind to watch over the ship while the others head out.
On the first day, while traveling toward the signal, the group finds a dormant Screamer factory hidden in a hillside bunker. The machines use parts from human victims as raw materials. They decide to spend the night there. Commander Sexton charges one Screamer to download its schematics, which accidentally reactivates the factory. On the second day, a Screamer slips aboard the Medusa and kills Soderquist. While heading toward a life-form reading inside an old Berynium mine, the team gets ambushed by both unseen figures and Screamers. Romulo is too wounded to move and tells the others to flee, then uses a grenade to take out the Screamers. Sexton orders everyone back to the Medusa immediately.
