Synopsis
Bobby travels by ferry to a small bed and breakfast for a romantic vacation with his girlfriend Jules. He discovers that he and Jules are trapped in a loop, repeating the same day, which ends each time with a hooded figure murdering them. Attempts to leave the island or avoid death fail; the ferry is shut down by the town in memorial of a murdered couple. Bobby investigates, and the bed and breakfast owner cryptically advises him to do the right thing. Flashbacks reveal strain in the relationship due to Bobby's suspected infidelity. In one loop, Bobby confesses to a bartender that he cheated on Jules, got the woman pregnant, and pushed for an abortion. The bartender urges him to tell Jules the truth. When Jules arrives, they fight, and the hooded figure kills them. The next day, Bobby confesses the affair and abortion, along with a prior affair. This causes another fight but breaks the loop; Bobby wakes to find Jules gone. He returns home alone and is arrested for murdering Jules. It is revealed that Bobby killed Jules before the trip because she wanted to leave him. Imprisoned and receiving mental help, he reads a letter from Jules about leaving him. He eventually confesses to the murder but insists the time-loop events occurred.
Reception
Critics were split on the film, which sits at a 67% score on Rotten Tomatoes from a dozen reviews. Many took issue with its pacing and found the characters hard to root for. Roger Moore and Culture Crypt both drew comparisons to Groundhog Day, with Moore calling it more of a “problem-solving exercise” than entertainment—watchable but not good. Film Threat and Rue Morgue were kinder. Film Threat admitted the first hour will frustrate nearly everyone, but argued that strong pacing, cinematography, and cast make it an entertaining 90-minute ride.
