Fictional character biography

Joshua Foley's powers first manifest while he is a member of the anti-mutant group the Reavers, though they go unnoticed by the other members. He uses them to save fellow mutant Laurie Collins. After being outed as a mutant and thrown out by his parents, Joshua reluctantly joins the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning and becomes Prodigy's roommate. His parents sign legal guardianship over to Danielle Moonstar. A depowered Rahne Sinclair visits the mansion, and Joshua is instantly smitten. He sneaks out to a bar where Rahne is playing pool, and they establish a connection. When they kiss, Joshua unconsciously restores Rahne's powers, causing her to lose control and mortally wound him. With Archangel absent, the residents electrically shock Josh awake so he can heal himself, which turns his skin and hair a reflective gold color. He is assigned to Danielle Moonstar's New Mutants squad and given the codename Elixir. Rahne attempts to end the relationship after becoming a teacher, but Elixir persists until she sees him on a date with Laurie and ends it. He eventually realizes it is for the best and pursues a relationship with Laurie. After the events of "House of M," only 27 students retain their powers, including Elixir. Emma Frost orders the institute evacuated, but many students are killed when William Stryker bombs a bus. Josh cannot heal his dying classmates in time and becomes severely depressed. He participates in a melee to join Frost's New X-Men and makes the team. After Stryker kills Laurie Collins, Elixir uses his powers to kill Stryker, turning his skin black. The Stepford Cuckoos later help him learn advanced science from Beast's mind, exponentially increasing his power and allowing him to master his black abilities.
