Synopsis
Four members of a dysfunctional family—shut-in gaming addict Taichiro Arima, his overachieving younger brother Asuma, their estranged father Kojiro, and their disorganized mother Miyabi—cope with real-world struggles by playing Planet, a virtual reality MMORPG. The game involves socializing, forming teams, clashing with guilds, adventuring, and fighting monsters, with the ultimate goal of defeating a final boss called the Black Bird of Happiness. Unknowingly, the Arimas form a simulated happy family unit in a team named the Akabane Family, bound by a rule against prying into each other's offline lives. As the game merges with reality, learning each other's true identities threatens their bond and the survival of themselves and others.
