The Institute

The Institute is a reclusive scientific society descended from the staff of the Commonwealth Institute of Technology, the Fallout counterpart of MIT. It emerged as a major post-war power in the 2200s and sees itself as a haven of knowledge in a dying world, developing advanced technology; its best-known creation is the synth, an android nearly indistinguishable from a human, which it uses to infiltrate the other post-war factions. In Fallout 4 the Institute is one of the four main factions, a secretive technocratic society at war with the Railroad, the Minutemen and the Brotherhood of Steel, and the Sole Survivor's search for their son Shaun leads there. The Institute Courser X6-88 is one of the possible companions.
