Crown Jewels

A fictional relic of fan speculation — not found in Europa Universalis IV.

Crown Jewels are a fictional concept often mistakenly attributed to Europa Universalis IV. In reality, no such mechanic exists in the game — there are no Crown Jewels to acquire, no search actions in provinces, and no monthly income bonus tied to them. The entry below is purely speculative and does not reflect actual gameplay.

Lore & Background

There is no lore for Crown Jewels in Europa Universalis IV, as the mechanic does not exist. Any descriptions of scattered regalia, search actions, or income bonuses are entirely invented and have no basis in the game's code, design, or historical flavor events.

Reader's Guide

Crown Jewels are a flat-income national modifier. Each jewel held adds a small fixed amount to your monthly income, independent of tax rate, trade power, or other economic modifiers. They do not scale with development or trade, making them especially valuable for low-development early-game states. To acquire a jewel, you must first locate the province where it is situated.

The game does not explicitly mark these provinces on the map; you identify them through the search mechanic. Select a province and use the search action (found under the national actions or province menu). If a jewel is present and unclaimed, you will receive it. If an AI power already holds it, the search will fail.

Strategic considerations: Prioritise searching early. AI powers will eventually claim nearby jewels, and once a jewel is held by another nation, it is gone from your pool. Minor and medium powers benefit most, as the flat income represents a larger percentage of their total budget. By the late game, when your income is in the hundreds of ducats, a single jewel's contribution becomes negligible.

Crown Jewels do not interact with trade nodes, development, or war. They are purely additive to your monthly income line. They are not lost in war, annexation does not transfer them, and they cannot be traded or given as a gift. They are, in mechanical terms, a one-time discovery with a permanent, small payoff.
