Melina

A spectral guide who offers a bargain to restore the Elden Ring.

Melina is a spectral figure who appears early in Elden Ring to guide the Tarnished toward becoming the Elden Lord. She first meets the player after they rest at three Sites of Grace, offering a bargain: she will serve as their 'Maiden' and grant them access to leveling up, provided they accept her terms. In exchange for this pact, she bestows upon the player the Spectral Steed Whistle, enabling the summoning of Torrent, the game's first rideable mount in the Soulsborne series.

Lore & Background

According to the available source material, Melina's true provenance is not explicitly detailed beyond her role as a 'Maiden' and traveling companion to Torrent before meeting the player. Her connection to other characters is hinted at indirectly; for instance, it is suggested that Torrent's former master might be known to Ranni the Witch, who received items from the same person, but no direct link between Melina and Marika or specific item descriptions regarding her bloodline are stated in this text.

Reader's Guide

Melina functions as the primary guide by offering her services at Sites of Grace once the bargain is accepted. She enables the player to level up and provides the Spectral Steed Whistle, a tool critical for traversing the Lands Between. This whistle allows the summoning of Torrent, who can double-jump, scale cliffs using spiritsprings, and gallop across the world. Her presence is tied to the player's progression, but unlike other guides mentioned in broader discussions, this source limits her interaction description to the initial meeting at the three Sites of Grace and the Frenzied Flame ending sequence where she retrieves the whistle.
