Donetsk–Krivoy Rog Soviet Republic
A short-lived Soviet republic proclaimed in 1918, later invoked by the DPR.
The Donetsk–Krivoy Rog Soviet Republic was a self-declared Soviet republic proclaimed on 12 February 1918, three days after the Ukrainian People's Republic signed its Treaty of Brest-Litovsk with the Central Powers. It claimed territories south of the Ukrainian People's Republic, including the Kharkov, Yekaterinoslav, and part of the Kherson Governorates, with its capital initially at Kharkiv and later moving to Luhansk. The republic was not supported by Lenin or Sverdlov, though some Bolsheviks like Elena Stasova sent best wishes. It was disbanded at the second All-Ukrainian Congress of Soviets on 20 March 1918, failing to achieve international or Russian SFSR recognition, and was abolished in accordance with the March 1918 second Treaty of Brest-Litovsk. The republic was later invoked during the war in Donbas when the Donetsk People's Republic declared itself its successor in 2015.
