Volatile

The dangerous infected that only appear at night.

Volatiles are the most dangerous infected in Dying Light, and they only appear at night. The game's enemies range from the slow, low-level Biters and the exploding Bombers to the fast-running Virals, with the Volatiles at the top of the threat; the day-night cycle makes zombies slow and clumsy by day and extremely aggressive after dark, and players can skip the night at a safehouse if they do not feel ready.

Lore & Background

In the story, Rahim tries to bomb a Volatile nest with plastic explosives taken from Rais's storage facility; Crane finishes the plan and destroys the infected in the nest, but Rahim had been bitten and turned. In The Following, the Mother has been turned into a sentient volatile by the elixir held in a secret military facility in a dam: by day she keeps her mind, by night she becomes a feral monster, and Crane's own exposure to the elixir turns him into a sentient volatile in the ending that leads into Dying Light: The Beast. In Dying Light 2, Aiden is bitten by a Volatile and infected with THV.
