Revision – Apocalypse II

Inappropriate? Monstrous? Or is it crossing borders? And simply brilliant?

Last updated

Revision – Apocalypse II, a drama/horror film from 2009, was both written and directed by Edwin Brienen. It was produced as a joint effort between Germany, the Netherlands, and the United States, and had its first screening at the Netherlands Film Festival in 2010.

The story takes place in a society run by a controlling government. Traci (Eva Dorrepaal), a former nude model, is losing touch with reality.

She feels menaced by an unseen presence, a kind of “Big Brother.” Encouraged by her photographer husband Charlie (Clayton Nemrow), she turns away from God and commits to what is described as the ultimate evil: murder. Outside, the streets are ablaze, and a false Messiah brings destruction and disorder. Traci, haunted by an inner demon (Jacob Dove Basker), gradually descends into insanity.

All music for the film was composed and performed by the House of Destructo, a project from Dutch producer Vincent Koreman. The Horrorist contributes the song “Sex Machine.”

Critical response, as noted by the Dutch publication Filmkrant, described the film as: “Inappropriate? Monstrous? Or is it crossing borders? And simply brilliant? It actually all fits: 'Revision' is eccentric and over-the-top. Brienen belongs to a small group of directors: you can love him and hate him at the same time.”

The DVD was released in 2010 by European Filmfreak Distribution. A North American DVD release was scheduled for 21 August 2012 through MVD Visual.
