Gruesome School Trip
Fantasy turns to frightening reality when a school trip goes horribly wrong.
Last updated
The film follows Onnoval, an eleven-year-old outcast at school who writes a story about a school trip that goes badly for a bully.[1][2] His fictional horror school trip becomes real when the devil Ferlucci interferes.[1][2] Critics' opinions were divided on the film, and its worldwide box office earnings surpassed one million US dollars.[3]
Making and release
Warner Home Video released the film on DVD on 17 May 2006.[4][2] The 2011 DVD release lists a runtime of 96 minutes.[5] Pieter Kuijpers is credited as the director of that release.[5] The cast for that release includes Jim van der Panne, Serge Price, and Lisa Smit.[5]
The movie was awarded a Golden Film because its audience exceeded one hundred thousand viewers.[3] Because AVRO helped finance the picture, that broadcaster had it recut into a miniseries of four episodes, which was broadcast in 2007.[6][3] Video/Film Express put out a subsequent DVD edition on 22 November 2011.[4][5]
What the cited sources add
The NRC Handelsblad review explains that Onnoval writes a story in which a school trip ends badly for a boy who bullies him.[1] That same source states Onnoval only sees his notebook again when his class takes a school trip to a horror theme park via the "griezelbus".[6] The 2006 Warner release announcement describes Onnoval as an outsider at school.[2] The KinderTV Geheugen account notes that the main character is bullied at school and his parents are preoccupied with themselves.[6]
The 2011 Video Film Express release description says the main character's school trip becomes a nightmare in which he takes revenge on Gino.[5]
