Lore & Background

The game's plot involves Duke entering a portal to a future where aliens have exterminated all men on Earth and captured women as slaves. Duke works with a woman named Jane and the Unified Babe Resistance (UBR) to fight the alien leader Silverback. After killing Silverback, Duke goes through a portal to an alien mine, then a factory, and eventually a junkyard where he destroys a main computer. He then steals a spacesuit and ship to reach an alien space station, where he rescues a UBR scientist named Houston and learns the aliens plan to blow up Earth. Duke rescues imprisoned women and fights through 'the gauntlet' to face the alien boss, a larger version of the green cyclops soldiers with a hovercraft. In the ending, the UBR runs 'operation repopulation' with Duke as the only living male.

In Their Own Story

The emergency lights flicker amber across a bulkhead door as Duke kicks it off its hinges. Beyond, the corridor stretches long and narrow, lined with shattered consoles and the twisted remains of alien drones. A growl echoes from the next chamber—something big, something with too many limbs. Duke racks the Shredder, spits a wad of tobacco onto the grated floor, and grins. "Let's see what you got, space trash." The chamber opens into a vast circular hangar, alien vegetation cracking through the hull panels, and at the far end, a shape the size of a transport shuttle turns to face him. Duke cracks his knuckles. "Last one, huh? Cool."

Reader's Guide

The game is a third-person shooter. All enemies are new except pigcops and necro (pigcops have a strong build; necro are smaller and appear only in underwater levels). Duke's Desert Eagle is gold-plated. Weapons include combat shotgun, mighty boot (kicks), throwing knife (unlimited ammo), freezer (improved), flamethrower, RPG, pipe bombs, dynamite, laser Gatling, energy weapon, sniper rifle, grenade launcher, shrinker, and other alien-like weapons. Levels require climbing, jumping, swimming, running, and finding objects like keys and explosives. Difficulty is easier than the previous game; killing enemies increases ego, and items like Duke Nukem action figures and Duke's bio (portable) also increase ego.
