Plot
Max Hare is the heavy favorite to win a major sporting event. He is cocky, athletic, and incredibly fast. His challenger, Toby Tortoise, is teased and jeered for being sluggish and clumsy, though he can stretch his body. Max tells Toby he intends to play fair but seems intent on humiliating him.
The race begins and Max zooms off, while Toby needs an extra nudge from the starting line to get going. Max dominates early, zooming past everything. He pretends to nap under a tree to watch Toby, and Toby quietly creeps past, but Max soon bolts ahead again. Later, Max stops at a girls' school to talk to female bunnies.
As Toby lumbers past, the girls invite him to stop, but he declines, committed to finishing. Max stays to show off in archery, baseball, and tennis. Hearing the crowd cheer, Max sees Toby near the finish line and charges off. Toby stretches his legs to pick up pace.
The race is close; Max crosses the line and skids to a halt, then realizes he lost by a neck's length. The crowd congratulates Toby Tortoise.
Other appearances
They sang in The Mickey Mouse Club's opening theme and later appeared as guests on House of Mouse. Brief non-speaking cameos occurred in the Mickey Mouse episode "Carried Away."
