Rebbachisauridae
Diplodocoid sauropods with distinctive teeth and tooth batteries, spanning the Early to early Late Cretaceous.
Rebbachisauridae is a family of sauropod dinosaurs known from fragmentary fossil remains from the Cretaceous of South America, Africa, Europe and possibly Central Asia. They are members of the superfamily Diplodocoidea and, while many lack the extreme bifurcation of cervical neural spines seen in diplodocids and dicraeosaurids, some rebbachisaurids (e.g., Nigersaurus) do possess less developed bifid neural spines. Rebbachisaurids are distinguished by their distinctive teeth with low angle, internal wear facets and asymmetrical enamel, and at least some, such as Nigersaurus, possessed tooth batteries similar to those of hadrosaur and ceratopsian dinosaurs—a feeding adaptation that evolved independently three times among dinosaurs.

The family Rebbachisauridae was first described in 1997 by Argentine paleontologist José Bonaparte. Its first known genus, the giant North African Rebbachisaurus, was originally placed in the family Diplodocidae by sauropod specialist Jack McIntosh in 1990, but subsequent discoveries of additional genera showed that Rebbachisaurus and its relatives formed a distinct group. In 2011, Whitlock defined two subfamilies within the group: Nigersaurinae and Limaysaurinae. The clade Khebbashia, which includes Rebbachisauridae and its sister group Flagellicaudata, is named after a Moroccan tribe that inhabited the region where the first rebbachisaurid specimen was found in North Africa.
