By the early 1990s, Abelisauridae was included under Ceratosauria. The triumvirate model of ceratosaurs, coelophysoids, and abelisaurids faced challenges as early as the late 1990s and early 2000s, when many paleontologists began excluding coelophysoids from Ceratosauria, a view now widely held.
