The Melanorosauridae were a family of sauropodomorph dinosaurs from the Late Triassic and Early Jurassic. Friedrich von Huene first used the name in 1929, placing this family in the infraorder "Prosauropoda" along with the Anchisauridae, Plateosauridae, and Thecodontosauridae. The classification of these families has changed many times since. In 2004, Galton and Upchurch listed Camelotia, Lessemsaurus, and Melanorosaurus as melanorosaurids. However, a later study by Yates in 2007 argued that these animals were actually early sauropods. More recent research has either kept Melanorosaurus and Camelotia as close relatives or found them to be unrelated.
