Azmodan

He does not conquer with swords, but by corrupting the hearts of men.

Unlike his fellow Evils who favor brute force or despair, Azmodan specializes in corruption through temptation, desire, and excess. As the Lord of Sin, he seeks to drag Sanctuary into chaos by amplifying humanity's worst impulses rather than simply destroying them.

Quick Facts

Title
Lord of Sin
Domain
All Sins

Lore & Background

As a Lesser Evil in the original hierarchy, Azmodan is distinct from the Prime Evils—Diablo, Mephisto, and Baal—who were originally imprisoned in individual soulstones by the Horadrim; the Black Soulstone was created later by Zoltun Kulle to contain them collectively. However, in current Diablo canon (Diablo IV), Azmodan is classified as a Prime Evil, making the 'Lesser Evil' designation historically outdated. He views mortal flesh as weak and easily manipulated by desire. In recent events, he has waged war from his domain of Pandemonium Fortress to claim Sanctuary for himself, spreading corruption across the land and turning allies against one another through envy and greed.

Reader's Guide

Azmodan serves as a primary antagonist in the ongoing saga of Sanctuary. His role focuses on psychological warfare and corruption rather than direct conquest alone. He seeks to prove that mortals are inherently flawed by exploiting their desires for wealth, power, and pleasure. Azmodan wields dark magic capable of twisting reality and summoning minions born of sin.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is Azmodan?

He serves as one of the seven Prime Evils and rules over all sins as the Lord of Sin. Rather than using physical force, he corrupts humanity by amplifying their worst impulses like lust and greed.

What are his powers and role?

His primary weapon is temptation, which allows him to drag Sanctuary into chaos without needing an army. He manipulates the hearts of men to turn them against themselves instead of simply destroying them.

How does he differ from Mephisto or Diablo?

While other Evils focus on despair, hatred, or terror, Azmodan specializes in excess and desire. He believes that conquering the will through temptation is far more effective than brute conquest with swords.
