Gavrikov made his Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) debut with Lokomotiv Yaroslavl during the 2014–15 season. His KHL rights were traded to SKA Saint Petersburg following the 2016–17 season. He signed a two-year contract to remain in Russia with SKA. In the 2018–19 season, he scored a career-high 20 points in 60 games with SKA. He signed a two-year, entry-level contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets on 13 April 2019. He scored his first NHL goal on 15 November 2019 against goaltender Jake Allen and the St. Louis Blues. He finished his rookie regular season with 18 points in 69 games. He scored his first NHL playoff goal during the 2020 Stanley Cup playoffs against the Toronto Maple Leafs. On 5 November 2020, he signed a three-year, $8.4 million contract extension with the Blue Jackets. On 1 March 2023, he was traded to the Los Angeles Kings along with Joonas Korpisalo for goaltender Jonathan Quick and two draft picks. The timeline of late winter 2023 saw the league shuffle its defensive pieces in anticipation of the June 28–29 draft. On March 1, the Los Angeles Kings made a bold move, sending Vladislav Gavrikov and Joonas Korpisalo to Columbus. This deal was contingent on the Kings making the playoffs, which they did on April 2. Meanwhile, the Detroit Red Wings were busy acquiring picks; they received an Islanders' first-round selection and other assets from Vancouver, but Gavrikov remained in Ohio. As the draft lottery took place on May 8, 2023, Chicago and Anaheim moved up, while Columbus held firm with their newly acquired third spot. Gavrikov's name appeared in trade logs as a key asset for the Blue Jackets, yet he never suited up for Detroit, his name absent from any trade involving the Red Wings during this period.
