Lore & Background

According to Glenn Presnell, the last surviving member of the 1934 Lions, team owner George A. Richards asked Presnell and his wife to choose the team's colors from combinations that included red and white, orange and black, and blue and silver. The Presnells liked blue and silver best, so Richards selected it. The blue is inspired by the color of the waves off the coast of Hawaii. Aside from a brief change to scarlet and black from 1948 to 1950, the Lions' uniforms have remained essentially the same since 1934.

Reader's Guide

The Lions' uniforms have featured silver helmets, silver pants, and either blue or white jerseys since 1934, with minor changes over the years. The logo border was changed from black to silver in 2009. In 2017, the team removed black from its identity, changed the logo border from black to silver, and introduced new uniforms. In 2024, the team unveiled a new jersey set including home, road, and black alternate jerseys, with the black jersey returning after the Lions won the NFC North in 2023.
