A hurried court of locals finds McCall not guilty, accepting his claim that he was avenging Hickok's killing of his brother. Because Hickok was so well regarded and many of his friends are in town, McCall is made to understand he had better leave.

Garret Dillahunt also plays Francis Wolcott, George Hearst's advance agent in season 2.
Seth Bullock and Charlie Utter later track McCall down and bring him to Yankton, Dakota Territory, to be prosecuted. He is presumed executed some time afterwards.
