Background

To promote Zimmerman's first album, SectionZ held a remix contest on November 23, 2004. Participants remixed tracks from his user page, and the winner would appear on the album. The short, interlude-like "Bored of Canada" likely references the Scottish group Boards of Canada, an influence of Zimmerman's. It ends with nearly a minute of silence followed by a brief repeat of the track, probably a mistake. "Intelstat" samples vocals from Kenji Kawai's "M01 Chant I – Making of Cyborg," from the Ghost in the Shell soundtrack.

Release

A 2005 demo CD release was limited to about 100 copies, according to Zimmerman; several copies have since been rediscovered by fans. A revised digital download was released on June 12, 2006, omitting "FlashTV" and "Messages from Nowhere". Those tracks were digitally re-released in 2006 by Nicholas Da Silva on his removed album Hitless. In March 2017, Zimmerman re-released "Messages from Nowhere" on his compilation Stuff I Used to Do, which also included several other tracks from the album. In 2018, the digital download version was removed from major streaming and download services for unknown reasons. In December 2018, "FlashTV", later known as "Shift", appeared on the compilation New Year's Eve 2019.
