College career

Keke Coutee saw the field in all 13 games as a Texas Tech true freshman, starting twice and hauling in 11 catches for 105 yards. His sophomore year in 2016 was a breakout, as he played every game and led the team as its second-best receiver with 55 grabs for 890 yards and seven scores. The following season, his junior campaign, he kept rolling: 93 receptions for 1,429 yards and 10 touchdowns across 13 contests, plus a 92-yard kick return against Baylor. That yardage total sits second in school history for a single season, trailing only Michael Crabtree’s 2007 mark. Coutee entered the 2018 NFL draft after that year.

Professional career

The Houston Texans selected Coutee in the fourth round with the 103rd overall pick of the 2018 NFL draft and signed him on May 11 to a four-year contract. After missing the first three games with a hamstring injury, he made his NFL debut in Week 4 against the Indianapolis Colts, finishing with 11 receptions for 109 yards—the most receptions in a debut since the AFL–NFL merger. In Week 5, a Sunday Night Football overtime victory over the Dallas Cowboys, Coutee caught his first NFL touchdown on a one-yard pass from Deshaun Watson, totaling six receptions for 51 yards and a touchdown.

In the wild card round playoff loss to the Colts on January 5, 2019, he had 11 catches for 110 yards and a touchdown. During the 2020 season, in Week 13 against the Colts, he recorded eight catches for 141 yards in a 26–20 loss; in Week 15 against the same team, he had five receptions for 53 yards and a touchdown but fumbled on the goal line in the closing seconds, allowing the Colts to take over and kneel out the clock. The Texans waived Coutee on August 31, 2021.

He signed with the Indianapolis Colts' practice squad on September 2, 2021, and later signed a reserve/future contract on January 10, 2022. After being released on August 30, 2022, he was re-signed to the practice squad the next day, then signed to the active roster on October 15. He was released on December 13 and re-signed to the practice squad; his contract expired on January 8, 2023. Coutee signed with the New Orleans Saints on June 15, 2023, but was released on August 11.

He signed with the Miami Dolphins on August 13, 2023, and was released on August 28. On February 25, 2024, he signed with the DC Defenders of the United Football League, and re-signed with the Defenders on February 6, 2026.
