W.I.T.C.H. is an animated show adapted from the Italian comic series of the same name, which was published by Disney Publishing Worldwide. The production was handled by SIP Animation and The Walt Disney Company, with France Télévisions and Jetix’s European division also taking part. The story centers on five thirteen-year-old girls—Will, Irma, Taranee, Cornelia, and Hay Lin—who each control a classical element: quintessence, water, fire, earth, and air. They use these powers to serve as the Guardians of the Veil, protecting the boundary between worlds. The action unfolds in the city of Heatherfield and across several mythical realms, most notably Meridian. In the United States, the series first aired on December 18, 2004, and ended on December 23, 2006, broadcasting on ABC’s ABC Kids block, with repeats on ABC Family, Toon Disney’s Jetix blocks, and Disney Channel. France saw its premiere on February 3, 2005, on France 3’s Toowam block, followed by reruns on Jetix, Disney Channel, and Disney XD. Elsewhere around the world, the show mostly aired on Disney-owned channels, especially Jetix.

Lore & Background
The series takes place in the city of Heatherfield and various mythical worlds, primarily Meridian. The second generation of legendary Guardians of the Veil must save planet Meridian from the evil Prince Phobos and Lord Cedric, who are searching for the prince's younger sister, the long-lost princess of Meridian and true heir to the throne. They later find her to be Irma and Taranee's classmate and Cornelia's best friend, Elyon Brown. When Meridian is freed, a mysterious evil sorceress named Nerissa takes Phobos' top henchmen and reforms them as the Knights of Vengeance, later creating more powerful Knights of Destruction.

The Guardians' chief ally is Hay Lin's paternal grandmother Yan Lin, the former Guardian of Air, who taught the girls about their magical abilities and destiny. They are also helped by Caleb, a heroic soldier from Meridian, and Blunk, a frog-like goblin creature known as a Passling. Each Guardian's powers are magnified by the mystical world of Kandrakar, transmitted to the pink Heart of Kandrakar via the Aurameres. The series introduces concepts such as Astral Drops (duplicates created by the Heart of Kandrakar) and Altermeres (Astral Drops brought to life through Quintessence). The show aired in the U.S. on ABC's ABC Kids block, with reruns on ABC Family and Toon Disney's Jetix blocks, and Disney Channel.
