Ken Takakura
A timid student wielding cosmic energy to defend humanity from ghosts and aliens.
Ken Takakura is the main character from the manga and anime series Dandadan. He is a high school student whose belief in extraterrestrial life clashes with his classmate Momo Ayase's belief in ghosts, setting the stage for their shared adventures. Following a pivotal encounter, Ken becomes a vessel for an ancient alien entity known as Turbo Granny, granting him extraordinary abilities to combat both paranormal and cosmic threats.
Lore & Background
His transformation is visually distinct; when channeling Turbo Granny's energy, Ken's appearance shifts dramatically, often glowing with vibrant light and displaying enhanced musculature. This duality defines much of the series' conflict, as he must balance his human emotions with the raw, instinctual power of an extraterrestrial being while navigating complex relationships.
Reader's Guide
Ken Takakura begins as a typical high school student who claims aliens are real while dismissing ghosts, setting him against his classmate Momo Ayase. His personality is initially defined by shyness and insecurity, often hiding behind his thick glasses which give him the nickname Okarun. Despite his timid exterior, he possesses a strong moral compass and deep loyalty to those he cares about. His backstory involves a childhood fascination with the paranormal that isolates him from peers until meeting Momo. Their wager forces them into dangerous territory where Ken becomes a vessel for Turbo Granny, an ancient alien entity. This transformation grants him immense physical strength and energy projection capabilities but comes with the risk of losing control or being exploited by hostile forces. Throughout the series, Ken evolves from a skeptic into a confident hero willing to sacrifice himself for others. His bond with Momo shifts from rivalry to deep trust as they face increasingly powerful threats together. He learns that believing in the unbelievable requires courage, balancing his human identity with the cosmic power flowing through him.
