The 1993 NFC Championship Game was played on January 23, 1994, in Dallas between the Dallas Cowboys and the San Francisco 49ers. Three days before the game, Dallas coach Jimmy Johnson famously guaranteed that his team would win. The Cowboys jumped to a 28–7 halftime lead, scoring four touchdowns in their first five possessions, and won 38–21. A week later they beat the Buffalo Bills 30–13 in Super Bowl XXVIII.

Background
Dallas took the opening kickoff and marched 75 yards in 11 plays to score on Emmitt Smith's 5-yard touchdown run. Five seconds into the second quarter, Steve Young's 7-yard touchdown pass to fullback Tom Rathman tied the game. The Cowboys then scored three unanswered touchdowns: a 4-yard run by fullback Daryl Johnston, Smith's 11-yard touchdown reception from Troy Aikman after a Thomas Everett interception, and Aikman's 19-yard score to tight end Jay Novacek.
On Dallas' first series of the third quarter, Aikman suffered a game-ending concussion. After Ricky Watters' 4-yard touchdown run cut the lead to 28–14, backup quarterback Bernie Kosar led the Cowboys 82 yards and connected with wide receiver Alvin Harper for a 42-yard touchdown. Kicker Eddie Murray added a 50-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to clinch the victory.
