The Star Logo

The blue star of the Lone Star State.

The Dallas Cowboys' blue star, which stands for Texas as the Lone Star State, is one of the best-known logos in professional sports. It began as a solid star; a white line and blue border were added in 1964, and it has not changed since.

Lore & Background

The 1960 uniform had a white helmet with a simple blue star and a blue-white-blue stripe. In 1964 the team moved to essentially its current look.

Reader's Guide

The star has spread beyond the Cowboys: Jerry Jones' defunct AFL team, the Dallas Desperados, used a similar logo.

The star also appears on the sleeve stripes of the navy road jersey. The helmet is a silver with a tint of blue, "Metallic Silver Blue", with a blue-white-blue stripe down the crown.
