Llandrindod Wells F.C.
Welsh football club from Llandrindod Wells, founded November 1883.
Llandrindod Wells Football Club is a football team from the town of Llandrindod Wells in Powys, Wales. The club was founded in November 1883. It has competed in the Cymru Alliance, the Mid Wales League, the Ardal Leagues, and the Mid Wales South League.
The club originally played in the Mid Wales League. A second-place finish in 1994 earned promotion to the Cymru Alliance, where they stayed for four seasons before returning to the Mid Wales League in 1998. During the 2003–04 season, the club resigned from the Mid Wales League and its record was wiped.
On 24 April 2010, Llandrindod won the J. Emrys Morgan Cup, beating Montgomery Town 1–0. After a strong 2010–11 season, the first team finished as runners-up in the Mid Wales League South, one point behind Builth Wells, and were promoted to the newly formed Mid Wales League Division Two. In 2011–12, the team placed fourth in Division Two, with Aberaeron winning the title. That season ended with a Radnorshire Cup victory over Hay St Mary's at Builth Wells.
In 2012–13, Llandrindod went undefeated in their first ten league games but faded after Christmas, finishing as runners-up to Llanfair United. Both clubs were promoted to Division One for 2013–14. That season, the first team won all 16 of their Division One matches, including an 8–1 away win over local rivals Builth Wells and a 13–0 win at Montgomery Town. They won the Division One title at their first attempt, remaining unbeaten at home and dropping only two points. A 3–1 win over Montgomery Town secured the league, taking the team to 101 goals in 28 games while conceding the fewest. Runners-up were fellow promoted side Llanfair United. At least 15 of the squad had come through the club's junior and youth ranks. The title was the club's first league championship in 47 years.
After ground improvements in early 2014, the club met the criteria to return to the Cymru Alliance for 2014–15. They were relegated after one season, finishing second-bottom. In 2020, the club became a founding member of the Ardal South East, then transferred to the Ardal North East in 2022. In July 2026, the club resigned from the league and joined the Mid Wales South League for the 2026–27 season. The club had attempted to sign over 60 players but failed, cancelling some pre-season fixtures due to a lack of available players. Chairman Rob Nicholls described the move as an opportunity to reset, rebuild, and secure a sustainable future.
Honours include Mid Wales Football League Division One titles in 1961–62, 1966–67, and 2013–14, and runners-up finishes in 1962–63, 1964–65, 1993–94, and 2019–20. The club also won the Mid Wales South League Cup in 2010–11 (reserves), the J. Emrys Morgan Cup in 2009–10, and the Radnorshire Challenge Cup in 1962–63, 1999–2000, 2010–11, 2011–12, and 2016–17. The SWFA Intermediate Cup was won in 1897–98. International player Carl Robinson earned 52 caps for Wales between 1999 and 2009.
