Ransoniella
A controversial cowrie genus largely synonymized with Notadusta.
Ransoniella is a genus of sea snails, specifically marine gastropod mollusks belonging to the cowrie family, Cypraeidae, within the subfamily Erroneinae. The majority of species once classified under this genus are now considered synonyms of species in the genus Notadusta, which was established by Schilder in 1935.
The taxonomic classification of Ransoniella, as proposed by Dolin in 2007, remains a subject of debate. Nevertheless, because this classification has not been formally challenged in published literature, it has been adopted by WoRMS. Ideally, Dolin's species designations should be verified through molecular analysis.
The following species are currently recognized within Ransoniella, though many have been synonymized with *Notadusta punctata* (Linnaeus, 1771): *Ransonia antistita* (†), *Ransoniella coseli*, *Ransoniella faviai* (†), *Ransoniella ferruginosa* (†), *Ransoniella girardae* (†), *Ransoniella gofasi* (†), *Ransoniella inhereditaria* (†), *Ransoniella martini*, *Ransoniella minuscula* (†), *Ransoniella pouyensis* (†), *Ransoniella pseudohirundo* (†), *Ransoniella punctata*, *Ransoniella senuti* (†), and *Ransoniella tarbelliana* (†).
Numerous other species once placed in Ransoniella have been brought into synonymy, all now regarded as synonyms of *Notadusta punctata* (Linnaeus, 1771), which is itself a synonym of *Ransoniella punctata* (Linnaeus, 1771). These include: *Ransoniella atomaria*, *Ransoniella bulbosa*, *Ransoniella carula*, *Ransoniella erminea*, *Ransoniella fusula*, *Ransoniella glandina*, *Ransoniella iredalei*, *Ransoniella labiosa*, *Ransoniella meyeri*, *Ransoniella oryza*, *Ransoniella persticta*, *Ransoniella radiosa*, *Ransoniella serrata*, *Ransoniella uvula*, *Ransoniella vulgata*, and *Ransoniella zyzypha*.
